ICBC accident counselling

Have you recently been involved in a motor vehicle accident? Are you experiencing feelings of stress, anxiety, or fear related to the accident? ICBC will cover your counselling sessions for free.

Victims or individuals involved in car accidents who open a claim with ICBC are pre-approved for 12 counselling sessions. These sessions are intended to support you through the stress, anxiety, depression, and uncertainty you may experience after the accident. This coverage is available to drivers and non-drivers alike. Because of ICBC’s “No Fault Model”, you are eligible for coverage regardless of the role you played in the car accident.

Callisto Counselling is an approved ICBC provider and charges no additional top-up for each session. Sessions are available immediately from the date of the accident and for up to 12 weeks after the accident. Virtual sessions are an option to help reduce any barrier to accessing counselling after your accident.

Signs you may benefit from counselling

Sometimes we don’t recognize our struggle until it is too late. You may benefit from counselling after your accident if you are noticing low energy levels, a desire to avoid usual routines and activities, difficulty concentrating, ruminating on details from the accident, increases in symptoms of anxiety or depression, or a general lack of interest in things that brought you joy.

counselling support for more than 12 weeks

For some individuals who have pre-existing mental health concerns or experienced a traumatic accident, 12 counselling sessions is not enough. ICBC offers the opportunity for extensions so you can get the consistent and familiar support you need. These extensions are an incredible opportunity, but are not guaranteed. I try my best to utilize my clinical skills and understanding of your mental health to fight for your case. If your extended coverage is declined, you are welcome to remain my private client. If you have extended health coverage to cover the costs of counselling, that can be utilized. If finances are a consideration, I am happy to discuss my sliding scale with you.
